Do crystals really work?
Or are they ‘just rocks’?
It might sound wild, but I believe that the energy of crystals has an effect on us.
Here’s a science-minded rundown on why.
Point one- everything is energy.
Every solid object, from the pavement of the road to the chair you might be sitting in, is made of atoms. And we know that atoms not only vibrate constantly, but that they’re mostly empty space between the most minute particles that relate to each other across that space. This isn’t some crazy new age idea, it’s basic quantum physics!
Did you know that pretty much everything emits light, it’s just not a type of light that we can see? Even the human body emits bioluminescence, but it’s roughly 1,000 times too weak for us to be able to see it. We are putting out light and energy all the time, and so is everything around us.
So if everything from a pillow to a potato is emiting energy, what makes crystals special? Crystals have what’s called a lattice structure on the molecular level. It means that their molecules repeat in a certain structured way. And because of this lattice structure, the energy that crystals emit has a unique vibration.
Remember- everything is vibrating, all the time, because everything is made of atoms. Vibrations and frequencies aren’t wacky buzzwords, they’re well known and much used terms in physics and in science.
Point two- entrainment.
Entrainment has different implications depending on what field of science you’re referring to, but over all, it means the tendency of things to try to synchronize with each other.
For example, if you’re talking to someone who is speaking very quietly, you might lower your voice to match them without realizing it or meaning to.
Another example is a study on proximity of humans to horses. It “showed the human heart rate dropping to a frequency it does not normally go to in humans! But one that is common in horses. This is what showed her the horse’s heart field was dominant (possibly because its electromagnetic field is larger). Because that coherence frequency ‘belongs’ to the horse, not the human.”
There are many other examples, but I’ll share just one more- the human tendency to respond to music by tapping your foot or otherwise moving or clapping to a beat.
What does this have to do with crystals? Well, we’ve already established that everything is putting out energy, and that crystals give off more focused energy than other objects because of their molecular lattice structure. I believe that because of entrainment, our bodies can pick up on the energy from the crystals, and can respond to it by trying to ‘match up.’ Thus some crystals can help us feel more calm, others more energized, others more grounded, based on what type of energy that crystal gives off.
Point three- reasonable expectations.
Because I approach crystals as a matter of science and not magic, they have reasonable limitations. They can’t instantly make you feel perfectly well, or cure cancer, or make money come to you.
Just like you take a medication into your body and then wait a little while for the right dose to take effect, crystals have to be applied in the correct way and for more than a few seconds to have an effect.
Likewise, just like taking a vitamin will help if it’s something your body was lacking, but won’t do anything useful if it’s something you already had enough of, we use crystals which match up to what we’re in need of for them to have a noticeable effect.
So what is the correct way to ‘dose’ and apply crystals so that they work? I believe that half an hour or so, spent in receptive meditation, is enough to let the energy sink in and work on us.
Ok, but… remotely?
This was a sticking point for me when I started out. All of the above had me convinced, but how can the energy of the crystals reach their recipient across a huge amount of space, when all I have is some basic information about the person like a name and maybe a voice on the phone?
Before I started this business, I tested remote sessions with several friends and family members, most of them very skeptical. I wanted to make sure I’m selling something real. And anecdotal evidence as it may be, the results of my tests were that people did seem to feel better after a treatment, more balanced. And the effect lasted, sort of gradually released, for hours or days.
We know that energy can reach across spaces- I think again of how the atom is mostly empty space. And quantum theory has demonstrated that when something is observed, the fact of it being observed can alter its behavior on an atomic level, even though we don’t yet understand why or how this could be. Experiments have shown that “the greater the amount of "watching," the greater the observer's influence on what actually takes place” (same source as above). Thus the idea that my focus on someone else’s energy might change their energy is founded in science.
I’m willing to accept that remote energy healing might be something I can’t completely understand at this point. Maybe science hasn’t advanced far enough for us to explain it; but just like germs and molecules and radiation are things we once didn’t understand or even know existed, but now we know about them and treat them as a fact of daily life, maybe one day we will understand more about how and why crystals and their energy work.
